奈良に旨いものなし、これを英語で言うと・・・
ひと月ぶりの英会話サークル、久しぶりに大盛況でした。
レッスンでおもしろかったものがこちら。
Smart Guard
VLADIMIR,RUSSIA,
1.Sergey Sokolov is a guard in a small twon in western Russia. In the winter, he takes care of a group of summer homes that are empty for several months. When the owners are out of twon, Sokolov is respensible for the houses.
2.His job can be dangerous because there are plenty of thieves in the neighborhood who have broken into these homes.
3.Sokolov is not big or strong, but he is smart. One day he had a good idea. "I know how to keep these thieves away!" he thought.
4.Sokolov made etremely large boots and, with big steps. walked in the snow all around the houses.
5.Clearly, criminals have studied the great b ig footprints because they have stayed away.
6.Sokolov's job is much easier now. "Crime is down footprints really scared them!"

冬の間、別荘の管理を任されている賢いガードマンが
泥棒よけに大きなブーツの靴跡をつけておいたら、
犯罪が５０％減ったってお話。
Ｈｕｇｈ曰く、本当あった話なんだって。
ロシアの話だから、それもありかもね～って
もう一つ、勉強になったのが、こちら。
志賀直哉の『奈良に旨いものなし』にリベンジするイベントが開催されると言うお話。
Japanese novelist Naoya Shiga once said, “There is no delicacy in Nara.” Luckily for us, this kind of foodie\event proves him very wrong. The festival consists of two separate events held in Umami and Nara Park. The first event begins at Umami Kyuryo-koen Park on October 1st. Real Italian dishes with vegetables and ingredients produced in Nara will be served throughout the event. The second event, held in Nara Park, starts on October 22nd. There will be a sumptuous restaurant but you must make a booking to eat there. There will also be a casual bistro and a food market called Cu-Cal Bazaar. Top-ranking chefs from over the country will join forces to create new dishes for Nara at both venues.

このｄｅｌｉｃａｃｙが 『旨いもの・ご馳走』なんですって。
日本語で『デリカシー』って言うと、違う意味になってます。
どうしてなんでしょうねえ
昨日のレッスンで、話題になった英訳しにくい日本語を一つご紹介。
「ガラが悪い」これを英語でどう説明したらいいんでしょうねえ。
とりあえずＨｕｇｈにはillbred lowbredとかでお茶を濁しといたけれど、
別に生まれとか育ちが悪いってことじゃないから、bredは関係ないかなって思えるし・・・
どなたかいいアイデアがあったら、ご一報を！よろしくお願いします。
個室の住人仲間さん、本日１０月１８日の一言
今日は人の上、あすはわが身の上
人の世は不安定なものだから、他人の災難をよそごととして見過ごさず、用心しなければいけないといういましめで、今日は他人のことだと思っていた災難も、明日は自分のことになるかも知れないという意味から。「今日は人の身、明日は我が身」ともいう。
